After spending a few nights sleeping in the driveway checking everything out and how things worked, Daddy said we were ready to take the new Rockwood Mini lite on the road. We decided to stay close to home for a first time out and went to Starve Hollow in southern Indiana.
Starve Hollow is a small DNR facility with a campground along the lake in the woods around Brownstown Indiana. We picked a great little spot on the lake and then didn't pay attention to the fact that we couldn't open our awning all the way because of the trees. Papa was so flustered by getting it level and parking it the first time that he was scared to try it even move it. There was a lot of screaming and yelling while they tried to get backed in and set up. Thank God the nice people next to us took pity on our daddies and helped set everything up. People sure are nice at campgrounds.
Thw next morning, we let Daddy sleep and we got up to watch the sun rise over the lake. It was the first time Spike,Kingsley , and I had ever got to see it. Sure was beautiful!!!! Papa started a fire and even though I'm not great at telling time, I'm sure it took an hour or more😱
Then all of a sudden the most amazing smell started floating through the campground. BACON!!! Dozens of campfires, dozens of iron skillets sizzling! We found dog heaven 🥓🥓🥓
Of course we had to go in and wake Daddy up so he wouldn't miss all the excitement. We feasted on bacon and eggs around a roaring campfire beside the lake and then took a nice long nap inside cause someone didn't pay attention to the weather forecast . They also didn't pay attention to all the necessities that one need to spend 3 days in a RV. Like FOOD!
Not to fear a 10 minute drive gets you to a wonderful little place called General Dollar. I wonder why my Daddies never shop there when we're at home? It seemed to me that you could buy everything from food to antifreeze. Oh yeah, the pet food isle was a smorgasbord of puppy crack!!!!
We returned to the campground with our newly purchased treasures to enjoy our snacks and movie night . We had to watch one of Papas favorite movies "The Long, Long Trailer" with Lucille Ball and Ricky Ricardo. We laughed and laughed but I hope we never experience any of those problems when we're traveling. And boy was it cold!!!!!
After a couple of days we returned home but then returned again in a couple of weeks. I guess my Dads weren't ready to try a real road trip so we returned to Starve Hollow. This time we had picked out our spot ahead of time so Papa felt more confident. Too bad it didn't make the set up much smoother. Papa still doesn't have the hang of turn left to go right and Daddy isn't the best at directions. It doesn't help that Spike can't control his excitement when we arrive. Set up took even longer this time but part of the reason was the brand new fence that Daddy got for us so we aren't tied up all the time.
The new fence made a great patio area for us and Daddy was even able to take a nap without having to worry about Spike wondering off. He's a little stubborn when he sets his mind to something. Papa says we must be understanding cause he is getting old. I think Spike wants Daddy to think that so he can do whatever he wants.
Daddy's nap was cut short when we had visitors that night. A nice couple came over and wanted to see our RV. They were funny and a little bit drunk. I know that work cause I think I've seen Papa that way once or twice. Papa let them look around and visit for a while , talking about campgrounds and travel trailers. This was a new experience for us but we soon realized this was normal cause it happens everywhere we go. This was the first time Daddies used the shower and quickly learned how fast the RV runs out of water. Another trip to General Dollar for a water hose. A quick hookup with our new hose and we were all set.
So that's the story of Starve Hollow. I don't think we will be going there this year but we would recommend it if you like to fish, canoe or just relax on a quiet lake . Thanks for visiting and I'll bark at you later!
